The Power Play in the Presidency's media set up is causing officials to issues conflicting statements ahead of the president's one year anniversary since he assumed Power.
Nigeria will on Wednesday May 29th mark another successful democratic transition from one civilian government to another.
It will be the first full year since President Bola Tinubu took over the reins of power from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari but 24 hours before the one anniversary there appears to be confusion within the ranks of the President's Top Media aides.
First there was a statement by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Tambawal, earlier in the day to members of the the National Assembly.
The statement by the clerk read in parts “This is to inform Distinguished Senators and Honorable Members that as part of the event to commemorate 25 years of unbroken democracy and Legislature in Nigeria, there will be joint sitting of both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Wednesday 29 May, 2024,” the statement partly read.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, will address the joint sitting on state of the nation and also commission the National Assembly Library.
“Distinguished Senators and Honorable Members are expected to be seated by 9am.”
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information & Strategy followed the announcement by the Clerk with a statement on his verified X media handle with the title "PRESIDENT TINUBU TO ADDRESS JOINT SITTING OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TOMORROW " confirming that the President will indeed address a joint sitting of the National Assembly (NASS) on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
The Special adviser went further to say, "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not give a broadcast to the nation on Wednesday to celebrate his first anniversary as the leader of Nigeria".
In a shocking turnaround of event, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity issued a statement late Tuesday evening saying the information that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , will address the joint sitting on state of the nation is false and unauthorized as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event.
