President Mohammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of an institute of food processing equipment and machinery development in plateau state.
The approval for the establishment of the project came through the National Agency for the science and technology, an agency under the federal ministry of science and technology Abuja.
The plateau state ministry of science and technology Last week signed a memorandum of understanding with the agency on behalf of Governor Simon Bako Lalong in Abuja.
Executive chairman of national Agency for science and engineering Technology infrastructure Prof Mohamed Sani Haruna, said that, plateau state deserves the establishment of the institute in the state in view of how central it is to other state in North Central who may benefit from the services of the institute.
Prof Haruna noted that already the state has smaller institutes that forms the basics for technological advancements adding that with the bigger one on the way it will provide a pedestal on which the Will of technology in the central part of the country will rotate.
When fully operational, the institute will set the stage for equipment production and distribution to small scale and medium sectors of the economy.
The state commissioner for science and technology Gyang Musa at the press briefing in his office said the plateau state Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has earmarked a temporary site for the institute to take off.
He stated that having secured a temporary site for the project to take off in line with the memorandum of understanding, what is left the take off of the project which he noted will be in the first quarter of Next year.
Mr. Gyang Musa also added that the institute of technology Laranto Jos and the Government Technical college bukuru are to also benefit from various programmes of the National Agency for science and engineering.
