Just In! Tribunal Dismisses Petition Against Plateau North Senator

The election petition tribunal sitting in Bauchi state, has dismissed the petition of Chris Giwa of the APC against the election of Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang



Giwa Christopher Musa and his APC (Petitioners) had approached the tribunal after the February 3rd 2024 rerun election for Plateau North Senatorial District as ordered by the Court of Appeal after it nullified the February 25, 2023 excercise earlier won by Simon Mwadtkom.


The Petitioners alleged the Court of Appeal judgment limited participation in the rerun election to only parties in the Appeal thereby, excluding Dachungyang Pam Mwadtkom (1st Respondent) ADP (2nd Respondent) and Yakub Muhammad Shafiu (3rd Respondent), NNPP (4th Respondent).


Also the tribunal dismissed the petition of Shafi'u Sahlan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party against the election of Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang.


However, in its judgement, the Tribunal held that it lacked jurisdiction to entertained the petition.


The Tribunal went ahead to declared Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang as validly elected Senator at the Rerun Elections conducted by INEC in February this year.


Reacting to the Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang has welcomed the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal in Bauchi which upheld his election as the duely elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Distinguished Senator noted that what happened today is a reaffirmation of the popular will of the people of Plateau North Senatorial District to serve them as their Senator.


In a statement by Eric Dung, Special Assistant (Media) to Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, the Senator reiterated that he has never for one day lost sight of the huge responsibility that comes with the demands of the office, and says; right from Day-One, served as a spring-board to do his outmost best in ensuring that what rightfully belongs to the people of Plateau North does not slip bye.
