Jos Curfew: Police, Soldiers Prevent Attempts to Loot Shops

Attempts by some miscreants to loot shops and business places in Jos Monday morning, were prevented by the Police and Army.

The #endbadgovernanceinNigeria protest has been largely peaceful in Jos and environs since protesters took to the streets last Thursday.

There were reports, however, last Sunday of criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, who broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.

That move led to the imposition of a 24-hour curfew by the state government on Jos-Bukuru Metropolis late on Sunday.

Despite the imposition of the curfew attempts were made by miscreants early, Monday morning to break into shops and warehouses in some parts of Jos North.

Eyewitness told this website that the hoodlums who were in their hundreds and armed with dangerous weapons were stopped by the police who pushed back the mob.

As at the time of filing this report, smoke was seen billowing from burnt tires around the Angwan Rogo and Yan Doya market axis.

As Police and the military move to enforce the curfew, most streets in Jos, the Plateau state capital, were empty of the usual bustling human and vehicular traffic.

The city center, Terminus, was a complete shadow of itself as all the shops, businesses and banks on Ahmadu  Bello Way were closed.

It doesn’t appear likely that the 24-hour curfew would be reviewed as soon as was expected if the reported incidents in some parts of Jos North are anything to go by.
